Glanville Environmental Supports Erme Primary School with Playground Renovation Project
In alignment with our core values of protecting the environment and embracing collaboration, Glanville Environmental recently embarked on a meaningful community engagement project with Erme Primary School, located near our head office in Ivybridge. This playground renovation project reflects our continued commitment to giving back to the communities in which we operate, while also leveraging our resources, skills, and expertise to make a tangible difference.
Following successful collaborations with other local schools in 2022 and 2023, Glanville Environmental was recommended to Erme Primary School for their essential playground repair and maintenance needs. The school was facing significant financial constraints, with quotes for the project reaching over £2,000, covering labour, skip hire, plant hire, and soil removal. Aware of the prohibitive costs, we saw an opportunity to step in and assist where funding was insufficient.
Civils team, led by Wayne Lowe and Mark Mitchell, and supported by Manager Paul Miller, undertook the work in early August 2024.
The project involved the removal of large concrete planters in the school playground to prepare the area for future resurfacing and a new playground layout. On a sunny August morning, the team began by carefully clearing the contents of the planters, before demolishing and safely disposing of the concrete and soil.
This project was particularly significant for Glanville Environmental as it highlighted the power of collaboration between businesses and local institutions, aligning with our philosophy that environmental protection goes hand-in-hand with community engagement. By volunteering our time, expertise, and resources, we were able to support Erme Primary in a way that not only reduced financial strain but also accelerated the school's plans for a much-needed playground renovation.
Teacher Natasha Pasmore, who coordinated the project with our Marketing & Communications Coordinator, Abby Donald, expressed her gratitude:
“Glanville Environmental has been an incredible supporter of The Erme Primary School, generously volunteering their time and resources to help us kickstart our playground revamp. By providing us with a community day, Glanville's team worked tirelessly to remove four large concrete planters, including the soil, entirely free of charge. This invaluable support allowed us to begin our playground renovation much earlier than anticipated. Thanks to Glanville's generosity, the funds we had raised so far could be allocated directly to playground equipment, rather than the initial preparation work. We're incredibly grateful for their support, which will greatly benefit our children.”
This project not only demonstrates our commitment to supporting the next generation but also embodies our values of environmental stewardship and collaboration. By contributing to the community, we foster deeper relationships, create positive change, and ensure that sustainability is at the forefront of everything we do. As we continue to grow, projects like this reaffirm our belief that protecting the environment begins with building strong, resilient communities, where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
