Operative Raises £1000 for RMA Completing Three Peaks
Simon Delaney completes Three Peaks goal before 50th birthday!
On 9th August Simon committed to hiking Ben Nevis, raising money for The RMA (Royal Marines Charity) in support of fellow former marine and friend Lee Spencer, also known as The Rowing Marine, as he endured The Triathlon of Great Britain.
It’s not a challenge for the faint-hearted and Simon was keen to offer support for Lee during this brutal challenge by hiking Ben Nevis alongside him. The Triathlon of GB encompasses the three iconic endurance challenges in Great Britain, including a 22-mile swim across the English Channel, 1060-mile cycle ride from Lands End to John O’Groats, and 45-mile hike up the three highest peaks.
Simon tells us “I always wanted to complete the three peaks before turning 50 and as a close friend of Lee I decided to support and join him on that leg of his challenge”. Various obstacles and medical problems during the Triathlon of GB meant that Lee Spencer unfortunately couldn’t complete the challenge in full, however, this didn’t deter Simon who climbed Ben Nevis on 9th August without Lee and then continued to complete Snowdon on 20th August, and Scafell Pike on 22nd August where he dragged his daughters Hannah & Megan up too, completing the three peaks the day before his birthday.
A huge congratulations to Simon for raising £1000 for the RMA by taking on this challenge to support Lee and for completing his goal of tackling the three peaks before his 50th birthday.
