Soakaway Construction

The problem

Eleven properties in Lee Moor are discharging septic tank effluent into one soakaway. They have had continued problems with the soakaway overflowing. This was caused by the ground conditions and the soakaway not being of sufficient size to cope with the flows from the septic tanks.  The soakaway overflowing and leaving effluent on the surface was an environmental issue and an immediate solution had to be found.

The solution

Glanville Environmental were called and after carrying out a permeability test on the ground constructed a new soakaway to deal with the large amounts of waste water.  A soakaway consists of a deep hole used for draining directly into the ground. Aquacel Baskets were used to disperse the water evenly and to avoid the ground becoming waterlogged.

The result

The result was a new and highly efficient soakaway that would no longer overflow, allowing the treated septic tank waste to discharge safely with no environmental pollution.
