Pump and Rising Main FailureBourne Leisure Limited, Haven Holiday Resorts, Sandy Bay, Exmouth
The problem Glanville Environmental were contacted by May Gurney Ltd to undertake an emergency response due to a suspected pump failure, that turned out to be a major rising main failure. The rising main was constructed in the floor of a culvert which discharged to the sea. When the rising main burst the effluent ran into the sea through the culvert causing water pollution.. The Environment Agency ordered an immediate shutdown of the pumping station. As the culvert was approx half a mile in length and very deeply buried, access to the rising main was very limited. Glanville Environmental were therefore tasked with keeping the pumping station wet well emptied during the repairs to the rising main so that the pumps cold be isolated to undertake the repair work. The solution Glanville Environmental along with several of its approved sub contractors undertook the task using a fleet of tankers. A super silenced 6" pump was used to speed the filling of the tankers and to keep noise levels to a minimum, and the operation was carried out with no pollution incidents. The result The precise position of rising main failure was located by a CCTV camera inspection survey and then repairs carried out, with new pumps also installed in the pumping station. The operation by Glanville Environmental received positive feedback from Bourne Leisure Limited and from May Gurney. Ian Davis Environmental Services Manager at May Gurney commented that "once again Glanville Environmental have provided us with an excellent service, The operation was handled with military precision and your crews were exceptional. Well done: another difficult problem overcome!" |
